This Just in! (Superlative Hojiblanca)
Comic book references aside (mostly), this gorgeous specimen does share a lot in common with one of my favorite super heroes, Superman - If not in looks, then definitely in its otherworldly character.
It packs an extremely powerful punch (300+ PPM phenol count), but before I rush to describing the finale, I'll wax poetic about it's freshness quotient and complexity. Upon first sip, this oil's lively character nearly made my eyebrows meet my hairline. And while our "stable" is full of award winning racehorses, this thoroughbred takes the Triple Crown, out of the gate.
I wish there were better words to describe exactly how fresh and aromatic this UP Hojiblanca is, but for now I'll just settle on the term "alive". It literally dances on the palate with notes of green Granny Smith apple peel, nettles, unripe stone fruit, and a sizzling, reverberating Szechuan peppercorn on the finish. However, just like great athletes (or racehorses) it's important to remember that oils such as this, even with muscles on their muscles, also have a prime. To not grab it at this moment in time and savor it's beautiful, fleeting seasonality is almost criminal. People... please don't be criminals.
